Amazing location and property. Perfect when the northern lights came out one night! Lovely garden with wild rabbits and pheasants around. Beautiful views. The property itself was very comfortable and clean. Wonderful balcony upstairs though we were there when it was too cold to sit out. Lovely size for 1 or 2 persons. Great character in a stunning location. Kenny the greyhound enjoyed the rabbit watch in the mornings. Lovely welcome hamper and we had all we needed. Friendly hosts and highly recommend a stay. Would love to return in the future

The Old Buttress is a lovely spot. The delightful owners have created a modern, tasteful and comfortable holiday home with all mod cons..The wood burner was very welcome during our February stay..! The views from the property are stunning - and we particularly enjoyed watching the hares in the next door field! Our dog liked the garden, especially the stream.. We went on long walks most days, the majority by very pretty rivers Some nice local cafes nearby, and Hadrians Wall was an easy drive away. We are definitely hoping to return…

Although the cottage is called the Old Buttress it is a wonderful, comfortable, modern cottage. We were stunned by the view across the fields and towards the moors. Plenty of entertainment from the sheep, cows, pheasants and rabbits. Superb starlit nights. Lots of local walks from the doorstep along with places to visit nearby. The hosts are on site and the generous welcome hamper was much appreciated.

Firstly perfect setting for a rural retreat. Absolutely fantastic view, it was nice after the last few years to sit and just look into the distance and relax. On the clear night the stars were amazing. The accommodation was finished to a very high standard and equipped with everything you could need for a weeks stay, including jigsaws which my husband really enjoyed. The bed was comfortable and the shower was exceptional. The contents of the welcome basket well received. Benjamin the border collie really enjoyed himself, though I think the proximity of the sheep gave him pause for thought. He definitely enjoyed the garden. Could not fault any aspect would definitely book again.

We booked The Old Buttress for the first week of our 2 week honeymoon. We had a wonderful stay with all the home comforts and all the while surrounded by beautiful, ever changing views and had great access to some great walks nearby. Jon and Jane were lovely hosts, very welcoming and we enjoyed the very generous welcome hamper. Our dog was very comfortable there and we all enjoyed relaxing in the enclosed garden and paddling in the stream. We would return and highly recommend The Old Buttress for a relaxing stay.
