A very comfortable spacious cottage set in a peaceful location with the coastal path running just behind the lighthouse site. It is one of the best equipped holiday cottages I have stayed in. The internet /TV signal is intermittent and may benefit from a signal amplifier. However if you want peace and quiet and the sound of the sea, this cottage delivers.
Lovely cottage with great views
Great spot particularly if you like coastal walking and stunning views, great beaches near by too.
Excellent property in a stunning location Well appointed with everything you need ., a real home from home. Meticulously clean and fixtures and fittings to a high standard, not taking anything away from from ambience of a lighthouse cottage Welcome pack an added bonus
Incredible setting, beautiful home. Very clean and spacious.
A cracking location (stupendous sea views!!); clean, comfortable, well-presented cottage. Would definitely go back.
Amazing place so clean and modern in the most beautiful location we would recommend you stay
Stunning location and the property was excellent.
A lovely place for a get away for the week. It was a quiet location which was lovely, hardly any mobile signal but ok if you have WIFI calling enabled and access within the cottage itself. Triton is very well specced and had everything that we needed for our stay and the welcome gift box was a nice touch. The cookies were lovely! Entry is via a key lockbox on the outside of the building but as it's exposed to the elements, getting into it could be an issue for anyone who has issues with thier hands as it gets a little stiff at times. As others have said, the road down to the cottage is single track with few passing places from the village of Mortehoe, but we didn't have any issues navigating it, even in the dark. The views are fantastic and even greater sunsets. I would recommend the trail out to the right of the road which heads on the SW coast path to Rockam Beech. We tried the Ship Aground pub in Mortehoe for a local meal and it was really nice but beware that the only parking is the pay and display which is a few minutes walk away. The car park also has a small but informative museum at the far end as well as public toilets. Mortehoe is a 5 minute drive from Woolacombe which is ok but if you want more shopping I would suggest a trip to Barnstaple which is about 30m drive away. Combe Martin is a 20m drive away to visit the wildlife and dinosaur park. It has a great soft play area for little ones. Just note it has a steep car park. We did have a few issues regarding the boiler & TV service. These were resolved part way through our holiday. The boiler engineer who came out already had photos of the problem which means it was a known issue prior to our arrival, which wasn't acceptable. We used kettle for hand washing and had little heating for the first few days as Rural retreats were closed for the bank holiday. We managed to get access to one of the other cottages after a few days for showers until ithe boiler was fixed. To be fair, we were offered an exchange to the top bungalow after a few days but for us, it wasn't as nice as where we were stopping, so we stayed put until it was fixed. The lady, Lisa was very apologetic and helpful and did what she could for us so thank you. We knocked 1 star off the review because of the issues faced but we would like to return at a future date to give them chance to get 5/5. Overall, I would recommend.
This was our second stay at Triton and once again we were not disappointed. Super clean, everything we needed and great communication by the Housekeeper made it another wonderful stay. Highly recommended. Thank you Rural Retreats!
Originally we were in the cottage next door, WARDEN, when the central heating boiler broke on our first night. We contacted the housekeeper, who arranged a boiler repair man to come out, but it couldn’t be repaired. So, Rural Retreats offered us Triton to move into, which we did on the morning of our second day, for which we were very grateful. Triton is lovely, all in all. A couple of minor points though, the first related to Warden, as it’s telephone line was broken, the Internet in Triton at the end of the building next to Warden, kept trying to connect to a dead line, very annoying. Secondly, the shower head is broken, and won’t stay where positioned. That said, Warden is lovely, and thank you Rural Retreats, and The Housekeeper for rescuing our holiday.
Thank you for leaving your feedback. The phone line, internet and boilers in all properties were down due to a massive electrical storm at Bull Point. Luckily the plumber was able to get Triton’s boiler up and running but sadly the electrical storm blew out the master board in Warden so he was unable to repair that at the time. The phoneline, internet and boiler are all up and running in Warden.
It was excellent in every way
Beautifully furnished and decorated holiday cottage, with wonderful sea views. We ate in each night and the kitchen was well stocked with equipment. We were fortunate to have the site to ourselves though, as I was concerned about meeting another car on the long, narrow drive down to the lighthouse. Another passing space or two would have eased the worry!
What a stunning retreat! Perfectly situated for the SW Coastal path and great walks with stunning views. The property was beautifully decorated throughout and spotlessly clean. The welcome pack was also delicious. The only negative if you could call it so, was the long, narrow track to the property, but to be fair, I guess this just added to the rural location of the stay. Highly recommended and will definitely be back :)
The cottage was decorated to a very high standard and we enjoyed the peaceful location. I think the gorse bushes on the narrow drive need to be cut well back, as considerable paint damage can be caused to vehicles, as it is impassable with a normal sized family car. The mention of overhanging vegetation is not disclosed until the final email. Also, the outside seating needs to be increased to a table and chairs for each property. This wasn't an issue for us, as the property next door was unoccupied, however, I suspect if it was, then a first come first served would apply - not ideal. On the web pictures, there is a concrete table and chairs, which no longer exist.
Thank you for leaving your feedback regarding your stay at Triton. The drive is actually the property of the National Trust who maintain it but we can pass on your comments . We will also look into the outside seating at Bull Point.
We certainly enjoyed our week staying in Triton cottage that is in a glorious location overlooking the cliffs of North Devon. The cottage provided comfortable accommodation for the two of us and we were able to have our dog on holiday with us. The area around Triton has several beautiful beaches and the large open sandy beach at Woolacombe was our favourite as it has plenty of room for dogs. Triton is on the South West coastal path so walks either to Woolacombe or Lee Bay are easily done. We would have given a 5 star rating if it wasn’t for the long, narrow access road that has very few passing places and is need of repairs in some sections. So we would highly recommend if you have a small car and are comfortable in reversing about quarter of a mile down a narrow lane!
Brilliant location. Well appointed property. Excellent local contact.
Pro's Fabulous location perched on the cliff top with great views.Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Great if you are looking for peace and quiet. Good walks direct from the cottage. I suggest the cliff top walks to Lee Bay and Morthoe. Dog friendly. Con's Although I was aware that the access road of a mile was very narrow and with very few places to pass any oncoming vehicles. I did not realise how difficult it could be if, as I did, you meet an oncoming vehicle. I had to reverse nearly a quarter of a mile before finding a suitable place. Not easy
