This Holiday Retreat is situated in a beautiful area of the cotswolds. It is very comfortably furnished and we had everything we needed in the kitchen for self catering including a large hamper filled with useful goodies on arrival. The owners are living nearby and were happy to sort any problems such as replacing a lightbulb. There is a lovely seating area outside which unfortunately we were unable to take advantage of because of a drop in temperature but the barn was warm and cosy inside.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Buckland Wood Barn. With 2 en-suite bedrooms it was ideal accommodation for 2 couples. Lovely location and so peaceful with walks directly from the barn. Broadway is about a mile away is delightful with plenty of good places to eat. Recommend Tattersalls at the Broadway Hotel. The barn was well equipped except there were only 4 hangers in each wardrobe. The internet was extremely slow (7mb!)which was very frustrating, and it sometimes struggled with Netflix streaming. We didn’t see the owners and it was annoying that the dogs were allowed to roam and their mess wasn’t cleared up. The welcome hamper was great and we did appreciate that dishwasher and washing tablets were supplied. The beds were very comfortable.

Buckland Wood Barn is a more unusual Rural Retreats property but a fine old building. The barn conversion has two reasonable sized bedrooms both with five-foot beds and en-suites. There is a toilet downstairs as well which is most convenient. Set in a huge private estate next door to the owner's own splendid house (which is close by but hidden behind trees) there are sheep, horses and many pheasants. I think they are possibly a hunting and shooting kind of family going by the guest book comments. It is ideally situated for visiting many places of interest in the Cotswolds along with eateries in Broadway from ordinary pub grub to fine dining. The standard of the hamper was pretty good compared to some though the basket itself had not been cleaned out first and one or two other kitchen items had not been checked and cleaned so we did leave a message for the cleaner/housekeeper. The pictures of the property and grounds online on the RR website are accurate apart from the views perhaps. From the patio these amazing views cannot be seen for the trees. One has to walk round a copse to get to a bench on a lawn beneath the patio and property itself. If you don't explore, you don't get the views except from the long drive. Finally, we are townies and countryside noises at night were noteable.

Overall the accommodation was very nice and comfortable. Very nice touch to have a welcome hamper and some milk after your journey(you don’t get this from the National Trust). Unfortunately, there was a nasty smell when we arrived - think it was from the fridge but this went after a while. also, despite reading the instructions several times, we could not get the TV to work. Would recommend Rural Retreats to friends.
