A really nice, well-equipped cottage. Quietly situated in deepest Shropshire. Lovely view over fields up to the woods and the 'Sham Castle' folly. A very generous welcome hamper was waiting for us, and the kitchen was very well equipped. We were there in September, so didn't need the heating on but there's lots of control plus an inviting log-burner. Many roads around the property are quite narrow, but there are plenty of passing places so you soon get used to it.

We really enjoyed our stay at Evenwood Gables. The property is stylish and comfortable, making us feel at home as soon as we arrived. Perfect for a stay with my elderly mother with the two bedrooms (both en-suite) and the property being virtually on one level (a couple of steps, but easily managed by my mum). The welcome hamper was amazing! A real surprise and it was enjoyed by all three of us. Peaceful location with a lovely garden enjoying the afternoon sun. Highly recommend staying here. Katrina was extremely helpful and she and Gavin have done an amazing job with the renovations. Thank you also for posting the forgotten toothbrush to us 😊

Evenwood Gables is a recent and very well executed restoration of an old barn, one of three similar adjacent to the main Evenwood Farm house. It is extremely well furnished and equipped and there is plenty of parking space. There is a large living/dining/kitchen area, two big double bedrooms (each with an en suite walk-in shower room, a utility room, all on one floor. Vaulted and beamed ceilings in all the principal room give a great feeling of spaciousness. There is an outside patio and garden with furniture and a bbq. The property looks out on a vista of green fields and wooded areas. The ambience is not so much quiet as virtually silent. Clear night skies can be spectacular. The hosts live next door and were excellent. The welcome pack is top-notch; I’d book again just for the shortbreads! Both Shrewsbury and Ludlow are worth visiting – we would recommend the park and ride services for each to avoid unfamiliar narrow streets and town centre parking. At £2 return per person it’s a snip. We ate out a lot and can in particular recommend Osteria in Shrewsbury (family Italian) and the Ragleth Inn at Little Stretton (gastropub). The latter has the benefit of being opposite the only thatched church we’ve ever seen. There are only two downsides. The farm is in an area that can only be reached by narrow country lanes that are a bit slow to navigate. If visiting come in your 4x4, not the Ferrari. And the mobile signal is very weak (wi-fi is OK though). Neither of these would stop me booking again.
