Sham Castle is even more beautiful than in the photos. We spent most of our week just relaxing in the castle and gardens, but there are lovely local walks and nearby attractions too. Highly recommend staying here and hope to return.

The setting is pure magic, the castle is extremely luxurious, with comfortable beds, lots of lovely authentic features and Katrina is a wonderful host! We had excellent communciation and she was really considerate and thoughtful before, during and even after our stay. I really can't speak highly enough of this property and its owners.
Eccentric building surrounded by unspoilt land offering beautiful walks in the Shropshire countryside. Hexagonal and semi circular rooms make wonderful volumes and the arched, round and rectangular windows offer fabulous views in all directions. The folly is spacious and bright with a homely feel combined with eighteenth century elegance. It was the perfect place for organising a surprise birthday treat for my husband. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed cooking there and appreciated the very generous hamper. All in all, a great and memorable stay.
The castle is spacious and comfortable with spectacular views all around. We found i to be an excellent base for a walking holiday in Shropshire - with plenty of places of interest to visit.

We love staying at Sham Castle, it's such a beautiful place and we feel so at home here. The house is very comfortable and the views and surrounding countryside so lovely we hardly need to go anywhere or do anything. It's such a break from the normal hubub of modern living. The welcome hamper is terrific and the house has everything, warm blankets, log burner a lovely spot outside to toast the sun going down, great beds. We never want to leave it.
We cannot think of anything that could have improved our stay. The building was magical, the accommodation beautifully appointed and scrupulously clean, the hamper much appreciated and the hosts communicated effectively and were very helpful. We cannot recommend too highly a stay at Sham Castle.

Fantastic rural location affording exceptional privacy. Elegance and grandeur across the whole property. Great gardens. Lovely walks on the doorstep. Deer, hares, kingfisher, swans - just amazing.
A perfect retreat. Peaceful and beautifully situated. Very well appointed with all the necessary utensils etc. for a self catering holiday. The building is enchanting and the interior spectacular. The castle was gorgeous and so relaxing. It was the perfect place for peace and serenity, lovely walks, reading books, cooking nice meals, enjoying amazing views. The hosts were so very considerate with a lovely card and hamper for our wedding anniversary. My only regret is that we didn't bring our musical instruments. I thoroughly enjoyed reading for longer than my children would normally ever permit me to but to play music too! It would move my holiday at Sham Castle from a 10 to an 11!
High standard of decoration with attention to detail. Welcome hamper had luxury items above a normal hamper from Rural Retreats properties. Location is amazing. The grounds are beautiful. It had everything you needed in the kitchen. Chairs and dining facilities for outdoors also provided.

Our second stay at Sham Castle. A perfect place to stay. A lovely welcome basket (shame many Rural Retreats are no longer doing this as it does make Rural Retreats stand out from other companies).
Everything about Sham Castle exceeded our expectations! We visited in November for a friends 40th birthday celebrations and we were not disappointed. We arrived early to surprise our friend in daylight and the owners very kindly let us check in there and then, they were very friendly and couldn't offer enough help to us. The castle itself is truly stunning! It was spotlessly clean and had everything we could have possibly needed for our stay. The castle is in a very beautiful location and we enjoyed some bracing walks around the fields and lake. Shrewsbury is only a 25 minute drive and is a lovely little town. I cannot recommend Sham Castle highly enough, and anybody that stays there will be lucky to.
Sham Castle is simply sublime. The location is second to none, with 360 degree views. No light pollution at night no noise pollution during the day, just the milky way, sound of the deer, birds and bees. Wonderful. The house is such a treat, historic, comfortable and warm with all the mod cons and a well organized kitchen. Great beds and linen, lovely welcome hamper. But the house, the house is to die for. But don't go because I want it all to myself always.

If the restrictions are reintroduced and you are forced to cancel your holiday due to legal restrictions, please be rest assured that we will help you to move your booking within the same property, offer a voucher to be used within the same property within a year or cancel your booking in this instance and we will refund you the price you paid in full.
