The location, kitchen utensils, beds etc were good. In this day and age lack of decent broadband irritating - services link Starlink will provide cover and just stick the cost on the biil, and I find the lack of TV channels equally measly! Would have been 5 * otherwise. Oh and housekeeper service was welcoming and v. professional.

It is a beautiful well maintained property with wonderful sea views from 3 rooms. It is also extremely peaceful but a short walk from beautiful busy Whitby. Vanguard also has a very large garden for a rental property.

Lovely 3bedroomd cottage every thing you need is there. Clean & tidy. 40 minutes to walk into Whitby & 60 minutes into Robin Hood Bay. Big garden for the dog to play in. Brilliant sunrise on a clear morning. We are looking forward to visiting another light house in future.

The Vanguard cottage at Whitby was absolutely magnificent. Evelyn, our housekeeper, had prepared the cottage to the highest of standards. She deserves the highest praise. Our week long holiday was truly wonderful. Our thanks to Rural Retreats for all their help and assistance. Top marks to all concerned. Wonderful memories created.

The perfect spot. Wonderful views, exceptionally clean, with everything we needed. A large, dog friendly enclosed garden too, with great walks right outside the door.

Spotlessly clean, well-equipped property in wonderful location with wild sea views. Very good communication with helpful local property manager, Evelyn. One suggestion: a few hooks in the shower room, for hanging clothes, sponge bag etc.

On arrival there was a wonderful welcome hamper , the place is spotless, there is everything you need , home from home , it’s a stunning location perfect holiday, we will definitely be going back , and a very special thank you to Evelyn and Roger at the end of the phone to help with anything, it is a must holiday , it’s perfect

Vanguard is a beautifully maintained cottage. Clean, tidy, comfy beds. Well equipped kitchen. Fabulous outlook.

Very spacious, warm and comfortable. A superb position overlooking the sea, very quiet and restful. The milk coffee etc was appreciated and it was lovely to get a call from the housekeeper the evening we arrived to make sure we had everything. Great to get away from the internet.

Beautiful location. Cottage very clean. Housekeeper took trouble to phone us shortly after arrival to check all was OK - a thoughtful gesture.

Great location, totally isolated. Fantastic views and totally relaxing. Very clean and tidy throughout, and well maintained garden. As a bonus, we were given a tour around the lighthouse by the lighthouse keeper.

An amazing location with amazing views, we loved the cottage, very spacious beautifully decorated and a great welcome hamper with local produce. Loved the extra details such as dishwasher and washing machine tablets, cleaning products etc which we would normally need to take on a self catering break.
