it is in a beautiful situation
Port na Mine is a wonderful house in a beautiful location. We stayed for a week in early August 2023 and found that it had everything we could possibly want for a party of ten from two families. The house is very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped (including Nespresso machine), the beds, heating and hot water all excellent. Lots of bathrooms. The forest track up to the house was less difficult than we had been led to expect. The midges were only a very low level nuisance and the weather much better than forecast. The walk down to the loch takes 5 minutes and is delightful, down a mown path flanked by a sea of wild flowers. We kayaked, paddleboarded and swam in the loch, and our dog was rarely out of the water. Absolutely idyllic, and so quiet. So many wonderful things to see in the vicinity, like Glen Coe, Glen Etive, Castle Stalker and Dunstaffnage Castle. An amazing place!
Het huis is prachtig gelegen met subliem uitzicht op het Loch Etive. Het huis is uitstekend voor een familie bijeenkomst, wij waren met elf mensen en hadden ruimte te over. Het huis is van alle gemakken voorzien met zelfs bij elke slaapkamer een eigen badkamer. De uitrusting was echt volledig met ook een barbeque waar zelfs aanmaakhout bij was. We hebben een heerlijke vakantie gehad met schots weer, af en toe forse regen maar vaak stralend weer. In het meer kregen we zelfs af en toe bezoek van een zeehondje.

We had such an excellent time during our visit. The views were breathtaking and the home was clean and cozy. Thanks for everything!
Wonderful location which while a little remote was also close enough to plenty of amenities. The house was perfect for our group of 6 adults & 6 kids with a good layout. The kitchen was well stocked with good quality pots, pans etc. The large garden was perfect for the kids and we enjoyed having such easy access to the Loch. And the views from the house over the Loch were simply stunning! We hope to return….
Great place to stay easily accessible in a normal car. Tesco don't deliver but Oban not far. Remember wetsuit for the loch! The Cruachan ridge from by the house would be an epic walk if you left a car at the other end!
Beautiful house in a stunning location. The views were spectacular! House well equipped and comfortable with more than enough space for 5 couples. Had the best weekend.

Super house in a fantastic location it certainly was perfect for our needs with three families having a joint holiday
Fantastic setting. Peaceful and serene
1. The property was very well equipped and very clean. 2. The location and views were wonderful. BUT 3. 2 of the bedrooms were through rooms ie you had to go through one to get to another which was not made clear in the description of the property and was not suitable for different households. We had 6 households in the 6 rooms. Our group was not happy with this. 4. The water pressure was very low such that if more than one shower or bath was run at the same time, there was no water or it ran cold, especially upstairs. We had 7 adults all wanting showers after coming in from a walk or a cycle, and in the morning, so we had to go one at a time. It would have been totally unworkable with 12 which the house could take. I know there is a water shortage but a business like this with paying multiple users, needs to find an alternative means of water supply if as I suspect, this is a private spring supply. A borehole for example. 5. The track was actually terrible, and is just getting worse with continual use. We are used to driving up forestry roads and were prepared for it but there was one particular pothole which was dangerously deep and could not be avoided. There had been forestry work closeby so perhaps it had been made worse by machinery. But the owners need to go and look for themselves. It has reached an unacceptable state now. For such an upmarket and expensive property the access must be improved.
FROM THE OWNER- Thank you very much for your valuable feedback which we much appreciate. In regards to the room layout we will discuss with Rural Retreats to mention this on the webpage so it is clearer and perhaps a floor plan would be useful to have on there too. There is of course a separate external door to the extension end room but we appreciate we could have been clearer about the internal layout for the benefit of new guests.We are sorry about your experience with the water pressure/lack of it. We share the water from a spring with the neighbours. We do have a complex filtration system installed and this can affect the pressure. Your suggestion of a borehole is something we are already looking into. Regarding the potholes in the track - As you say the forestry work going on has made it worse with their heavy machinery. We are in discussion with our neighbours and forestry commission to upgrade the track properly, however with multiple parties involved it is taking longer than we would like.Thank you again for your comments and suggestions which we have taken on board and we very much hope you enjoyed your stay otherwise.

Wonderful, cosy, spacious house. Great beds and bedding, which is not always the case in rented holiday homes. Lots of areas for kids and adults. The track is just a forestry track, but we managed without too much trouble in our low sporty car. The position is wonderful and the winter colours on the loch and hill were beautiful. Two of our family even braved the waters for a wild swim, at 6 degrees, it was a very short one!
The house and location are lovely. There’s some small points with the house that could be better otherwise it would be five stars

Het huis was prachtig, mooie kamers en badkamers en een magnifiek uitzicht. Het enige minpunt was de kwaliteit van het water, bruin en niet drinkbaar.
this was a superb house ideally suited to a three-generation family group from three different continents. it was very spacious and flexible, and furnished and equipped to a very high standard. when the weather and the midges allowed we were able to sit outside, enjoy the grounds and the superb views up the loch towards Ben Starav. There was plenty to do and see in the vicinity (Kerrera, Angus' Garden, Dunstaffnage, Glencoe, Castle Stalker, Ardchattan Priory) although for the most part trips involved car journeys (along the slow road which connects the property with the A85).
